Will the food still be hot by school lunchtime?

Yes — the flask holds food hot for 6 to 9 hours, so a meal packed at 8am is still properly hot at midday. A school day is well within its range. Pre-warming the flask first makes a noticeable difference, as below.

How do I make sure it stays as hot as possible?

Fill the flask with boiling water, screw the lid on, leave it five minutes, then tip it out and add the hot food straight away. Cold steel draws heat out of the meal, so this one step is the difference between warm and properly hot at lunchtime. Filling it to the top holds heat better than a half-full flask.

Is 530ml enough food for a child?

Yes — 530ml (17.9oz) is a full main-meal portion for a toddler through to primary school age, holding pasta, stew, soup, curry and rice or porridge. It is deliberately smaller than our 730ml adult flask, which is a better fit for a teenager or an adult's work lunch.

Can my child open and close it themselves?

How do I get smells out of it after a strong meal?

Fill it with warm water and a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, leave it overnight, then rinse well. Store it with the lid off between uses, as a sealed damp flask is what traps smells in the first place.
